Perhaps the kitchen counter has become the default location for mail, school papers, and everything else that does not have a home. When winter coats, boots, lighter layers, and everyday essentials all compete for the same space, rotating what&#8217;s front and center can make the closet feel much more manageable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 600;\">Idea &#8211; Looking Back:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you don\u2019t have capacity for a more focused clean out, keep a box or paper bag in your or your child&#8217;s closet. Put it in an easily accessible place labeled \u201cdonate\u201d or \u201cto go,\u201d or however you\u2019d like to phrase it. As you come across things you are ready to let go of, toss it in. Maybe find what you didn\u2019t reach for at all over the last year and add it to the donation pile. When it\u2019s full, go drop it off or schedule a pickup if it\u2019s available.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 600;\">Idea &#8211; Looking Forward:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Maybe Bag. Think of starting a \u201cMaybe\u201d bag at the start of the season. As you bring things out of storage and come across something that sparks inspiration or excitement (\u201cOh, I get to wear this again!\u201d) put it in the Maybe bag. If at the end of winter you didn\u2019t reach into your Maybe bag, those items are ready to donate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Let Go of Summer Before You Move Into Fall<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There can also be value in acknowledging that some things belong to the season that just ended. Save your future self time and space by going through things before they go into deep storage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Summer activities, travel gear, pool accessories, outdoor toys, and warm-weather clothing may have served your family well for several months.
